Guest Post Content Guidelines
Guest Posting Guidelines.
The Sleep Hygienist DOES accept guest posts. But like all good things, there are some guidelines that need to be followed. If you are interested in being a guest writer, please read through this guide in its entirety, and then follow the steps provided to get your post published.
Purpose:
The purpose of this website is to educate its readers on all topics related to sleep. Your post must be related to the content of this site. Before publishing your post, I will need to read it and approve it. There are many, many sleep related topics you can write about. Bedding, Kids & Sleep, Sleep Disorders, Pregnancy and Sleep, Shift Worker's sleep, etc. Be creative. Try to find holes you can fill, specially if it is something you feel should be featured on a website about sleep. Please no 'Make Money While You Sleep ' posts, though.
Post Format:
Language
- Please proofread your work and have proper grammar and spelling for an English speaking audience.
No spam, no links to porn, violence, etc. No foul language or graphic sexual or violent content. Use common sense; this is a family friendly site.
Length
- Ideally, your post will be 1,000-2,000 words. However, if a post is 500 words but is of excellent quality, it will certainly be considered. Also, there is not a maximum limit at this time.
Tone
- Whatever tone fits you best: conversational, professional, formal, just be you.
Photography
- It is requested, though not necessary, that you provide 1 or more images that you have rights to. Either you own the image, or have permission to use it. The Sleep Hygienist reserves the right to not use all the photos you provide in your post, should you choose to provide them.
Topics
- pretty much anything sleep related.
Author Bio & Image Format:
- Since this is a guest post, you're going to want people to be able to get back to your site after enjoying your post. Please provide your name (or online handle), your website, a little about yourself, and a photo of yourself, if you like. Please keep your "bio" to around 100 words. Aside from your website's URL, you may include one additional link in your profile.
Rights & Permissions
- The Sleep Hygienist reserves the right to edit bylines and remove links that do not meet this site's standards or are manipulative. Once you submit a piece of writing, it becomes property of The Sleep Hygienist.
The Sleep Hygienist reserves the right to link to other content on this site within the post.
The post belongs to the blog owner (The Sleep Hygienist), is credited to the author (you) and cannot be republished anywhere else. This protects from duplicate content issues. Feel free to link to your post from your website, though. Your readers won't want to miss your latest post.
Your submission MUST be an original post, not a copy/paste from your own site or anyone else's.
No press releases.
Linking to your site within the post is fine as long as it is natural to the flow of the post. No clickbait, and no affiliate links.
And please don't go over-board with the links. If it benefits the post, and provides readers with further relavant information, I'm happy to allow as many links to other sites as appropriate. But I also don't want every other sentence to be a link.
If you are citing something in your post, please provide a link to its original source. There are two ways to do this:
(Example 1: According to The Sleep Foundation, its important to use all your senses to create the best sleeping environment).
(Example 2: According to The Sleep Foundation, its important to use all your senses to create the best sleeping environment -https://sleepfoundation.org/bedroom/).
Please don't be offended if changes are recommended.
How to start the Guest Posting process:
Now that you have familiarized yourself with the guidelines, send me your pitch for a post you'd like to write to jason@thesleephygienist.com.
The subject should be: Guest Post pitch (or something that lets me know you want to write a guest post).
Please give your name, and website.
Tell me what you want to write about, and why you think it would be a good fit for this site.
You will receive a reply within 2 business days. I will let you know if your topic has been approved or not. If approved, start writing your post.
When you've completed it, proofread it, make any corrections, and proofread it again. Then email it to me, either in an html formatted email, or attach as a Word document.
I will review your post, and recommend any suggested changes. Once it is in a format we both agree on, I will publish it onto the website. The moment it is published, it becomes the property of The Sleep Hygienist. As stated above, you cannot re-post this anywhere else, but please feel free to link to it.
